2022 Jubilee Celebrations

We are delighted to share here just some of the ways in which our WI's and Members have celebrated our Queens 70th Anniversary. Please email susannawaywi@gmail.com if you would like your WI to be featured on this page.

Heffle WI

On the Saturday of Jubilee weekend Heffle WI took part in the Heathfield Platinum procession. The procession was at the beginning of a day of celebrations in Heathfield and it was an early start to get the float ready.  As you may recall, the weather was very inclement at this point of the day and we were slightly concerned because our float was a trailer being pulled by a vintage tractor.  On our float was a large hay bale decorated like an enormous cake, what else could the WI theme for a celebration? However, it wasn’t very weather proof!

As we started to decorate the clouds parted and although it was not blazing sunshine at least it was dry, and we got to work.  We had made hundreds of paper flowers at our May meeting and after wrapping the bale in icing (banqueting roll!) we stuck bunting and flowers all around the cake.

One of our talented members Nicky had made a candle, crown and the figure 70 which adorned the top of the cake, it looked fabulous.

Heffle members were dressed either from the 50s or in red, white and blue and followed the trailer, (except for me with a broken ankle - I hitched a cheeky ride on the trailer.) The reception we had was brilliant and it was fantastic to take part in the celebrations and to represent the WI.

Buxted WI

The two weeks leading up to and including the Platinum Jubilee Celebrations were very busy for the members of Buxted WI. Led by the incredibly hard working Committee, Buxted WI were firstly involved in the Parish Open Day and Craft Fair which saw them running a Cake Stall alongside which they sold a vast array of new ‘Bits and Bobs’, raising a large amount for their charity of year, the Dame Vera Lynn Children’s Charity.
