Our Clubs
As well as our monthly evening gatherings, we have several clubs where members get together to pursue shared interests in smaller groups. Members regularly meet to have lunch, often within the village, as we are fortunate in having three cafés and a pub to choose from. A group of members met recently for an amazing three course lunch, which was cooked and served by students at the East Sussex College.
In addition to the lunch club, a new evening dining club has been established, to which partners/friends have been invited. It is a lovely opportunity to make friends and get to know each other better.
An evening out with friends in Eastbourne
Many of our members are passionate about their gardens and get together in the gardening club to visit gardens and to share their knowledge. Members have recently visited the Herstmonceux Garden Show, Sussex Prairie Gardens, the RHS Wisley Flower Show, and a talk at Rapkyns Cottage Garden nursery. We have also enjoyed get-togethers in several members’ gardens, and have met recently to leaf through bulb catalogues, discuss planting schemes and share experiences of all things horticultural.
A wonderful day at the RHS Wisley flower show
Our walking group meet twice a month and have been out and about enjoying the sunshine, the wonderful countryside and company of fellow members. We are so fortunate to be able to walk directly from the village over the Downs to the coast or through Friston Forest and down to Exceat and the stunning Cuckmere valley. We have also ventured further afield, but always with the opportunity of coffee and cake along the way, or on our return to the village, at one of our lovely local cafes.
Stunning scenery walking part of the Vanguard Way with the backdrop of the Seven Sisters.
Walking in our local Friston Forest
We have two newly established craft groups, where members pursue their love of handicrafts, either in group activities or working on one of their own projects in the company of fellow enthusiasts. The members put forward their ideas and share their talents at the daytime and evening sessions. The art of quilling and hand embroidery were shared recently, as well as creating Christmas baubles for the East Sussex Federation WI competition. Future projects include jewellery making, quilting and creating a poppy wreath for Remembrance Sunday.
All members are welcome to our clubs-no experience or level of knowledge needed; come along and join us for a chat and good company.
