WHAT WE DO

We meet on the first Thursday of the month and have a range of speakers.  Our current programme includes talks on:  A Year in Hastings, The Future Looms, The Women of Herstmonceux Castle and much more.  See Upcoming Meetings for our full programme of events.

We have a delicious tea of sandwiches, cake, tea and coffee which is provided by the members on a voluntary basis.  We also have a Summer Garden Party in August as well as our Christmas Party meeting and a Christmas Celebration lunch at a local hotel/pub.

Each year we nominate a charity

This year we are fundraising for St Michael's Hospice. We started this off with a Jumble Sale on the 18th March at the Catsfield Village Hall and raised a total of £255.47. So a good start. After arranging some other fundraising we raised a total of £1,000.  Our President, Treasurer and Vice President visited the Hospice in May to hand over the cheque

In 2022 we were fundraising for The Friends of Conquest Hospital, Hastings and raised a total of £952.00

At our June meeting we hold a ‘Fun Flower and Produce Show’ where members are given a list of classes that they can enter into.  For example, Home Produce, Home Crafts, Floral Decorations, Best Bloom in the Garden – there are usually around 5 categories in each.

East Sussex WI was contacted by a charity called the Happy Baby Community asking if any of our members would be able to knit baby clothes.  These will be given to disadvantaged women who have fled unimaginable horrors and sought safety in the UK.  Some of the knitters in our WI have been busy making  cardigans, hats, blankets and bootees.  If anyone would be interested in contributing you can find out more about this charity  at: www.happybabycommunity.org.uk

In September we hold our ‘At Home’ meeting which is a chance for members to talk about a particular aspect of their lives. This September the topic was holiday memories.

We arrange walks in the local area (weather permitting) culminating in coffee and cake in a nearby café.   Also there is a scrabble group which meets throughout the year in a member’s house.
